Review S13 EP08: Flint Sparks the Fire!

I guess you guys do not care about implications. Having Pikachu withstand over a minute of battle with an E4 Pokemon implies it is stronger that it actually is. It gives a false impression. It does matter. It doesn't matter if Pikachu won or not, it only matters it lasted so long. This is bad writing at its worst. Read my spoiler comparison and then prove me wrong.

The close combat survival was most jarring. Infernape's most powerful move and Pikachu pulls of a thunderbolt while falling down after it. And he stands with noticeable scratches, but continues fighting. Power Creep.

It seems like the dub is starting to get better. And this episode was great. Great voices, art, direction and script. There were some errors (Flints Infernape's tail missing) but everything else was great. For some reason, the bartender/poacher sounded a little like Kevin Conroy. Overall, great episode.

Is there any official way to find out who voices the characters other than looking at the credits and taking a wild guess?

I think that Flint sounded a lot like Reggie. Both him and Volkner were really awesome in this episode ^O^

And screw power levels, I'm in it for the Ignitionshipping D:<

The backstory between them was so cute. Basic shounen rivals, but those are the best kind :p

I can maybe sense that Volker has this inferiority complex when it comes to Flint, yet looks down on all the weak trainers he fights. Weird.

LOL, I just imagine what it must of been like for Barry and Paul to visit this gym. Paul probably did the same thing Ash did, seeing how PO'd he seemed, but being the ninja he is, probably fended off those robo-hands XD or not

Don't worry , I don't get it either why some people just won't realize that

Wasn't Brock's father who was selling rocks in season 1 named "Flint"???

If so, is this one of the first times the show has given two featured characters the same name?

Ahahaha...

The anime/games has always reused names for different characters.

There are at least three characters named "Emily" that have appeared at different points in the anime, there are five different characters named Lily in different Pokémon media.

Trust me, having two characters named Flint isn't so strange. In fact, Aaron and Bertha of the Sinnoh E4 also share names with other Pokémon characters (Sir Aaron and Big Bertha respectively).

Finally watched the episode.

- Theme song is growing on me...
- Infernape + Flip Flops = Flint's awesomeness...
- Emo Volkner...
- Yeah... those two ar luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuvers!!!
- Bartenders wears sunglasses inside!!
- Dawn, "Did you guys battle because you didn't like each other" Oh silly Dawn, can't you see those two are in love...
- Bartender, "Oh they were getting along. I think they oth knew they'd always get along no matter what. It's knowing that fact that kept them going" T___T Their love is an eternal love and will inspire poets for centuries to come!!!
- Ash, "But if Volkner's like what you're saying, why won't he battle me?"
Dawn, "Is there something else"
Go on...
- Bartender, "But when all was said and done, Volkner felt like an empty shell. Something was missing from his life..." *nods heads knowinglY* Those two are so meant to be...
- Brock, "It's not every day one battles with the Elite 4" You know that loses meaning when the girl you're sitting next to fought an E4 member and when Ash'll fight another one in 5 weeks...
- Volkner, "I really don't care" Oh yes you do...
- Flint trained its Infernape so much it can fly!!!
- Volt tackle... does it ever have recoil damage ? I mean ever?
- Flint and Volkner give each other a knowing look and the end!!!

I love this episode. The dub went a lot further than I thought they would. They all but spell it. Love the Flint/Volkner moments, but the rest... This episode makes me want to write slash fanfic all over again...

So I remember a user claiming a few months ago that her father got cast as the bartender guy. Anyone find out if it was really him?

Also oh Volkner. I swear there's a curse on Sunyshore, to produce TWO emotionally stunted psychotic perfectionists.

Mind=Blown.
Wow.

Uh...could you define your antecedent? Who is the "her?" XD

Hahah, that's great XD

Yeah, I was gonna say wasn't it Nya Chan's dad who voiced the bartender?

Not a bad episode. Flint and Volkner, especially Volkner, were played very well. Their interactions were really great.

Also, Flint's Infernape is bigger than Ash's.

I thought the dub was way better than usual. Great episode. Volkner's character was done right.

Overall, a great episode. I loved how the city looked (reminded me of movie 7), and it was funny seeing ash get manhandled by some robot hands. I sense some tension between Flint and Volkner, but that's up to the fangirls to speculate on. I also saw how the next episode was set up, with Ash's real gym battle and Team Rocket's plan to take over the Sunnyshore tower. I'll be looking forward to seeing how spectacuarly TR fails next episode.

Had a bit of a hard time hearing wat Volkner was saying but he and Flint looked cute as little kids and the pokemon too :)

Not my favorite episode but the dub did a GREAT job with it-- we hadn't had a psychological episode in a while...

didn't like the dub music though and usually I do....

B+

Also, I have to say this since it's been in my head from the start of the episode.

Flint didn't spark the fire
It was just Ash Ketchum
And the plot was awesome

Seriously, I watched this episode again. I thought it was great.
