Review S13 EP14: Dawn of a Royal Day!

"Your outfit is a less than regal, it embarrasses me a bit"

AKA princess talk for

"You dress like a slut, and I'm more conservative"

Best. Episode. Ever.

Salvia is really cute! Love her British accent.

Also, edit for "BRAINLESS BOOB"
For once, loving the Dub Dialogue

I was wondering what that line would turn out to be. I bet the real reason she was embarrassed was the short dress. :p

I think that's what it was in the original Japanese. I was wondering how the editors were going to handle it.

GREAT episode.

Jessie's "Boob" line was a great breath of fresh air, and I liked Ash's "my bad" too..

Great BGM both dub and Japanese.

Some really great lines in this episode...

One thing: Why do "the twerps" never actually catch pokemon?? It's always people giving pokemon to them or pokemon joining them...but never an actual battle..?

Great episode. Loved some of the dialog in this....What did Jesse say about Gobble-dee-gook? Cause that was priceless.

Jessie said in that scene, "Who does that twerpish sweet talker think she is with that gob of gooey "good day" gobbledygook?"

I know that, but it doesn't make her any less of a jerk. You'd think at least one of twerps would say how this isn't fair. They always seem to be quick to point when other people aren't doing things fairly.

Exactly!
Throughout the episode I was rooting for Jessalina as it bothered me how nobody really seemed to care that "Dawn" took part and, moreover, even won.
I would have expected that at least Brock would have the maturity to object and to tell the princess that this violates the rules of fair conduct in the Pokemon world in general.
Also, Jessalina's great line precisely expressed what I'd been thinking until the end of the episode:
"You're to be royally impartial. Nobody likes Princess Prejudice!"
But thank God we had that conciliatory scene in which Jessie was given the ribbon she actually deserved. It made up for the previous unfairness and I'm glad we got it because this would otherwise have been another example how the writers sometimes throw basic principles overboard
besides Takuto's winning the Sinnoh League, a fact I still haven't quite put up with

Anyways, with that happy end it was a really awesome episode which I fully enjoyed. Seeing Dawn as uncouth princess was hilarious and Princess Salvia's comment on Dawn's outfit were priceless, no doubt about that

All in all, a great episode full of funny, exciting and also profound moments and a reconciling end.

This episode could have totally sucked, but the fact Salvia spoke my thoughts every time I see Dawn in that outfit makes it incredibly awesome. Thank you writers!

I knew it! I knew they'd give the Princess a British accent! Personally, it was about time someone noticed how short that skirt was.

I kept cracking up when Dawn had to do those "princess duties" especially when she fell over.

Overall, I'm totally watching this again.

I was surprised at their low level of anger. Mr. Queen should have been more angry.

And are Freesia and Mr. Queen the Queen and King? Or just maid and butler?

Has it been established in the anime that once someone gets five ribbons they cannot enter a contest again? None of the judges seemed to care so was it really so wrong?

Well there's no rule against it, but the way I see it is if they win, they might be depriving someone else of the ribbon who needs it. And it would be embarassing to lose in a regular contest if you've proved yourself good enough to be in the GF.

I don't think it's illegal. If someone already has five ribbons, they can enter a contest just for training (and possibly steal someone's chance of winning, as seen in this episode, though she really wasn't Dawn).

It really *should* be illegal, though. People don't mind if you have ten Gym Badges or whatever because you can challenge Gym Leaders as many times as you want, but there are only so many Pokemon Contests. Someone who's out there getting her sixth or seventh or eighth ribbon is preventing someone else from getting it.

I also wonder why Dawn wasn't more reluctant to have Princess Salvia dress up like her, publicly. Wasn't she afraid that this creepy stalker girl would get up on stage and do something to completely fuck up her reputation? Or vice versa?

Ha! I forgot those two moments. I cracked at both. XD

But I am surprised that they had Jessie say 'boob' even as an insult.

Well, there's nothing saying you can't. If a coordinator enters a contest with 5 ribbons, it's probably to train or test their stregth before the GF. That, or to ultimately screw over someone so they won't be able to participate in it. :]

I also wonder why she gave her her normal clothes. Why not her contest clothes?

Lol, I watched that episode today and I nearly fainted when she wore that stupid dress.

This episode wasn't too bad!

I think it is a whole lot better than last week's with Bertha. (although Brock knowing she was Elite 4 material made it so much better!)

The accent seemed a bit off, and I wonder if they gave her an accent in the Japanese anime version...

Well, they actually had the same voice. It's a little confusing to distinguish the two in the Japanese version.

Not really. Princess Salvia uses extremely polite speech and words her sentences differently, so it's not that hard to distinguish her from her twin if you can understand Japanese.

The accent thing just makes this episode even more ridiculous than it already is. "Princess Salvia, why are you so uncooth? Also, why have you suddenly started talking with an American accent?"
