Unconfirmed: Black and White not to be followed by a third version: Mana Ibe denies a

Re: Unconfirmed: Black and White may be the only Generation V titles: Mana Ibe denies

As if the animé ever played it closely to the game's canon.

Which is why it is a stretch.

Re: Unconfirmed: Black and White may be the only Generation V titles: Mana Ibe denies

Word of God, maybe (not even confirmed to be real), but it conflicts with other things (N's name, the Plasma sages, and Kyurem's roles are all still in the dark)

It'll be out. They just don't want you to get too exited until it's announced officially. Or they haven't started on it yet.
And it'll be on 3DS because, unlike with Emerald when the DS was new and the GBA wasn't dead yet, the DS will definitely be dead 2 years after its successor.

That's my call on it.

The DS/i will still be selling, however, to parents who don't want to spend $250 for a 3ds. Keep in mind, in the past, Nintendo won handheld wars by selling shit cheap. The brick game boy was $89, and even though it was underpowered, it outsold other handhelds due to the fact that it was cheaper then the game gear ($150) and lynx ($180). It also had better battery life then the competetors, which got similar life to the 3ds.

The GBA was almost competetior free, so while the gamecube was flopping, the GBA was selling out. Only in 2004, did the PSP come out, but the DS came too that year. And the GBA initally outsold both due to it's lower cost, but later, when the lite came out, people rushed to upgrade, while the GBA hung around as a budget handheld, like the PS2 today. The DS will probably follow the same route, with a huge library and Pokemon BW.

Also, Pokemon Gen I helped boost original game boy sales, when sales were sagging due to it being old and outdated.

And even with the current $250 price tag in the US, I can assure you that the NGP will be FAR more expensive given the hardware I'm hearing about it.

Think the third version, if it's released, will have a single spelling difference between regions? (Grey/Gray)

I mean, IF they're going to settle on that color.

The past games have always stuck to American English for British English speaking countries. Personally I don't think they will bother when it comes down to the titles.

Re: Unconfirmed: Black and White may be the only Generation V titles: Mana Ibe denies

Quoting myself from the other thread:

In case anyone is wondering if the news has spread to Japan, Kotaku has an article about it. There is nothing in it we don't already know, but they're saying that an announcement is awaited from Nintendo.

So there you have it, folks. The Japanese fans don't need to be lied to because the vast majority of potential consumers have already bought the games, and yet Ibe's comment is going to affect them, as well.

Re: Unconfirmed: Black and White may be the only Generation V titles: Mana Ibe denies

Now that it's spread to Japan, methinks Mana Ibe may be in trouble if there really were plans for a third game in a year.

Re: Unconfirmed: Black and White may be the only Generation V titles: Mana Ibe denies

It's merely a report about what MeriStation's reported. We still don't have the original quote, among all the other problems I listed. Kotaku's article doesn't change anything.

Re: Unconfirmed: Black and White may be the only Generation V titles: Mana Ibe denies

Kotaku's article doesn't change anything.
It doesn't confirm anything, but it has left thousands of Japanese readers with their mouths agape. If anything at all is inaccurate in the MeriStation article, someone is going to bring that to our attention.

Re: Unconfirmed: Black and White not to be followed by a third version: Mana Ibe deni

Well, now that it's hit Japan, if it is untrue, I'd expect Junichi Masuda to come out and say so, like he did with the 3DS enhancement rumours.

Re: Unconfirmed: Black and White not to be followed by a third version: Mana Ibe deni

this is such crap. why is this becoming news all over? this is regular protocol people. they have to say "no" when asked "will it happen" or else it becomes an announcement, and those announcements are carefully planned, hyped, and scheduled.

this is pokemon company's protocol as well. i once got to have a heart-to-heart with a pokemon company employee. since i run a merchandise community, i asked him merchandise stuff, including, are you guys going to make raikou, entei and suicune pokedolls now that HGSS is coming out? and he said no. we will not be making those. absolutely not.

weeks later? they were announced. these dolls are planned up to half a year ahead of time. he even sought me out in the store and said "did you see the announcement? sorry i told you we'd never make them... THAT'S WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY TO THOSE KINDS OF QUESTIONS."

this is such crap, i say again.

Re: Unconfirmed: Black and White not to be followed by a third version: Mana Ibe deni

This could just mean that Ruby and Sapphire remakes are coming out before Gray, and Gray isn't even being developed yet.

Re: Unconfirmed: Black and White may be the only Generation V titles: Mana Ibe denies

Given Freeze Bolt and Cold Flare, as well as the lack of move tutors and whatever the heck the God Stone is supposed to be, the 3rd version is a must. As Serebii said, it's a bit too early to ask someone in an interview about this. Normally 3rd Versions arrive 2 years after the original two version, which has how it's been for the 3rd and 4th Gens. Try again next winter and the answer may be different that time.

but doesn't this page on serebii say there are move tutors in black and white?

Re: Unconfirmed: Black and White not to be followed by a third version: Mana Ibe deni

They already started developing Gray when they were making Black and White. =D

Ahahahahahaha! Not that I don't believe you- I do- I just think that's funny... (Well, I'm laughing on the inside...)

You gotta give him credit for apologizing. =)

Re: Unconfirmed: Black and White not to be followed by a third version: Mana Ibe deni

I really think we shouldn't be freaking out over this. If you ask me, this is nothing more and nothing less than a business move.

Of course they won't announce a third version when the first two aren't even out yet. And only weeks prior to the international releases, for that matter. That would be like saying "don't bother buying these, there will be a third, better one eventually". Or, basically, suicide.

These games bring Nintendo money. And no company will give up that kind of profit, no matter how much money they already have. The third version will sell. Most likely big time. They're probably working on it as we speak. But before it brings them money, they want to make as much of it on B/W as possible.

It's business.

I can understand this completely, but I am curious: why couldn't they just refuse to answer the question? That would cause less trouble, wouldn't it?

Probably. But they could have done so intentionally. This could boost the B/W sales a bit. Perhaps they thought that, knowing that there won't be a third version, some more people will go and buy the first two. Every profit is welcome, no matter how small.

Although, people who intended to buy B/W already bought them or were going to, anyways. This could still very well be a mistranslation or a wrong move, we can't really be sure.

Two words: No Comment.

This is it EXACTLY. Thank you for being the voice of reason in a sea of idiocy :)

They were there to promote Black & White. Revealing any details, including the likelihood of a future game which improves on it isn't just poor common sense, it's a ridiculously poor business practice. People seem to forget that Nintendo, GameFreak & TPCi are a business, not a company to serve to our insane fandom whims. They focus on the games they're promoting, not on ones eighteen months in the future.

They did this with the GBA (denied the GBA SP THE DAY BEFORE reevealing), they did it with HGSS, they will do it with everything.

What's worse is that this whole thing has also been clouded by translation

Spanish Question into Japanese. Answer given in Japanese, translated into Spanish, then translated into English for the west fandom and then into Japanase for Kotaku. So much meaning can be lost and warped.

I'm getting fed up with people assuming this is completely legit
