Preview XY059: Satoshi and Serena's First Date!? The Tree of Promises and the Presents!!

So presumably the episode will end with Clemont deciding to give his Luxio a present he made himself which will explode and destroy the tree?

So, it starts as a Pokemon gift giving spree? OK, that makes sense...although I wouldn't be surprised if the fact just Ash and Serena are going is deliberate.

Imagine if Clemont's babysitting? Not just the pokemon but maybe Ramos has some little grandchildren that live locally at Coumarine City close to their grandpa.

I always thought it'd be until Spoink flies for Ash to be romantically interested in anything. Guess I forgot Bounce was a Flying move. But if they chicken out of this, I'm calling it a jumping of the Sharpedo

Nuuuuu Ash+Misty 5ever!!! ;-;

Honestly though, I dont think Ash+May, Ash+Dawn, or Ash+Iris had very many hints in the anime. Ash+Misty and Ash+Serena were really the only ones.

And I prefer Misty wayyyy more dont want to start any arguments on the matter.

Coumarine City holds a festival once a year. Serena hears that according to tradition, if people give their Pokemon presents below the "Vow Tree" during this, it will strengthen their mutual bonds. Keeping it all a secret from Pikachu and the other Pokémon, she takes Ash with her to go shopping for presents. However, Serena is so focused on the fact that the two of them are alone together she's unable to pay enough attention to the shopping.

A pretty interesting update, though I suppose it more or less confirms what most people figured the gist of this episode was going to be anyway.

Ash and Serena will go shopping together, and we'll likely get a healthy amount of overt shipping hints from Serena. It should be an interesting episode overall though with some fun interactions, and Clemont and Bonnie's supposed Pokémon-sitting side plot will hopefully be enjoyable as well.

Shipping aside, it should make a nice episode to fill the gap between Ash's gym battle and Serena's contest.

Gang way! Fresh fuel for the ship, coming through!

Based on the translated versions of summary I've seen, it seems more like Serena initially assume this was going to be a simple shopping trip until she realizes that she and Ash are alone together (and this time with no Pikachu around since this is going to be a surprise for him). That's when she starts to treat it more like a date...

Re: XY059: Satoshi and Serena's First Date!? The Oath Tree and the Present!!

In my opinion, even if Ash aged (or matured or whatever), he would act exactly the same about romance and stuff. He's just not meant for it.

Thank you. I'm a bit sick of people acting as "Ash aging = Ash wanting romance". His ultimate most important and special relationship will forever be his friendship with Pikachu and nothing will ever rival that. He's "in love" with being a Pokémon Trainer and traveling around, and that's just what he'll always continue to do. He's too focused on Pokémon to care about that kind of things, and that's a big part of his personality, that's just who he is, it is not something that needs to be changed. It is not him being "childish", it is just who he is.

At first it sounded sweet wanting to surprise the Pokémon but then it turned into "Serena is using a sweet idea that was supposed to make the Pokémon happy into hanging around with Ash"........... meh...

It sounds as if Serena is just using shopping as an excuse to have some alone time with Ash.

This is exactly what it is. It makes me feel a bit sorry for poor Fennekin and Pancham... she's clearly thinking about Ash way more than about them.
I really hope that by the end of this episode Serena realizes how wrong she was and that she should care more about her Pokémon. I really want this to be a big part of Serena's character development: to gradually switch her focus from Ash and romance to her Pokémon and her goal.
(well she can have romance if she wants, but not at the cost of her Pokémon and it's not gonna go anywhere with Ash anyway)

Here's the VA List for the episode.

Ash: Rica Matsumoto
Pikachu: Ikue Ohtani
Dedenne: Megumi Satō
Clemont: Yūki Kaji
Bonnie: Mariya Ise
Serena: Mayuki Makiguchi
Jessie: Megumi Hayashibara
James: Shin'ichirō Miki
Meowth: Inuko Inuyama
Wobbuffet: Yūji Ueda
Fletchinder: Yuka Terasaki
Bunnelby: Chinatsu Akasaki
Chespin: Hitomi Nabatame
Pancham: Noriko Shitaya
Inkay: Kenta Miyake
Ramos: Minoru Inaba

A new summary.

Today is the day of a festival celebrated once a year in Hiyoku City. After hearing that giving a present to their Pokémon under the biggest tree in the city, the "Vow Tree", on this day will strengthen the bond between them and the Pokémon, Satoshi and Serena go shopping for presents. This is the first time the two of them have gone shopping all by themselves, without Pikachu, Citron, Eureka or any of their other Pokémon around. Serena feels it's just like a date, and is secretly overjoyed about it.

... I think this may be one of the most shocking things this episode may have to offer. Ash, without Pikachu for an extended amount of time (for reasons unrelated to evil teams, that is). Amazing.

So it's not really Serena's idea to get separated from the others, Clemont and Bonnie voluntarily take care of the gang's Pokemon..

More Ramos too? Nice

Well, judging by the actor list, it seems like we'll have the complete cast of Pokémon here (though I'm not placing any bets for Pumpkaboo), or at least I hope so due to the whole theme the episode has. I wonder if Clemont and Bonnie will have to deal with Team Rocket, because it'd be a letdown if Ash and Serena are interrupted by them, specially since they won't have their Pokémon. Speaking of that, I always love it when Pikachu is treated like a separated character, rather than just the one who, when not battling, sits on Ash's shoulder and mimicks everything he does. Even if I don't like this shipping nor how Serena will be acting, I'm still looking forward to this episode a lot, so far.

serena seems to realize that the #1 rival she has to satoshi's love is pikachu

Well Jessie's Pumpkaboo shares the same VA as Dedenne, so it could still appear. Also, Fletchinder is going to be in this episode, so unless it just appears in a flashback, Ash is probably going to use it. Although, maybe Clemont or Bonnie could command it. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Preview
- Serena tries to hold Ash's hand.
- The Coumarine Gym lights up.
- Ash is running and then turns his hat around.

That's right, all the voice actors are listed. The thing is the only Pokémon that doesn't really have a strong reason to appear is Pumpkaboo, as Inkay is confirmed, and all the protagonists' Pokémon should be with Clemont and Bonnie and then receive the presents. Fletchinder doesn't appear in the preview, but I don't see why it wouldn't be there. If they want to treat it poorly as usual and not giving it any role in the episode, at least it could get a speaking cameo with the rest of the team at the Vow Tree or something.

How is that not a strong reason? If Inkay is going to appear, there's a pretty good chance Pumpkaboo will appear alongside it if TRio attacks Clemont/Bonnie/the Pokémon.
