What sources? Details about the NX handheld are almost non-existent, as the rumors mostly pertain to the home console. The only thing we really know is that the systems will "act as brothers" and it should be easy to port games between them. Casuals are unlikely to care about that. That entirely depends on what Nintendo does with the NX. Sources are saying that the NX is meant to bring together the casual and the hardcore, and if that's the case, it's entirely likely that the NX will sell more than the 3DS. Either way, it's too early to make that assumption.
What Nintendo is doing to appeal to casuals has to do with their smartphone strategy, which they're going to start implementing this year well ahead of the NX's release. What do you think they're trying to achieve with Pokémon Go and its connectivity with the next main series game(s)? They want more people to get into the 3DS, which is hardly smart if Generation VII is being prepared for the NX. Most casuals are not going to buy two separate systems in consecutive years.
They were never said to have been planned for 2005. And frankly, I don't see why Generation VII would fare better than DP did should it be released in 2017. You keep talking about the models, but suffice to say that the problem with DP wasn't the sprites.Mitchman said:DP was originally planned for 2005, the delay was about a year long, so yes, it was quite big. And even with the delay the end result was.....suprising, to say the least.
Based on what? The NX handheld is supposed to share assets with its home console brother, rather than the 3DS.3DS to NX is arguably going to be the handheld equivalent of PS3 to PS4.
