Recently, I've been trying out a bunch of audio/video converters with no luck. These are: everything Applian Technology offers for free, AnyDVD/Video Converter and FreeStudio.

The main problem I have is that the converter has to be portable (meaning I can dump it onto a thumbdrive or HDD and it won't fuck up when I use it on other computers). Something seems to go horribly wrong whenever I try out the converters on other computers.

Does anyone know of a free, portable, decent and user-friendly audio/video converter?

If you aren't in a hurry, you can always use http://media-convert.com - works well, the only drawback is the time consumed when uploading the source file and when downloading the processed result.

Well, I'd have to do file conversion offline sometimes, so online web converters don't really cut it. Also like you said, they're rather too slow for my liking.

Squared 5 Streamclip

It's amazing, seriously. I use it every single day for my AMVs.

@DarkMaster - Squared5 does not have support for .flv files, which is a big issue since almost all my web videos (Youtube, Dailymotion) are in that format.

Huh, that's rather strange. I'm pretty sure I downloaded the correct one though... do you have a link?

If you downloaded it from the Squared 5 site, you got the right one. I have a Mac but I hardly see why that would make any difference. But, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work, so sorry that I don't have a better recommendation.
