Review DP101: Enter Rival Trainer Jun!!

DP101 "Rival Trainer Jun Appears!"

My network is having issues so I can't take any screenshots. EDIT: It works the minute Naruto is on (-_-;).

Impressions:
- Jun is so awesome that he has his own music playing
- His voice sounds a little to old for him though
- Melissa tosses Takeshi away like a rag
- Jun is full of pure randomness and challenges Satoshi but runs away.
- Melissa has the strangest way of moving
- How can you find your Poké Ball when they all look the same?
- Jun of all people actually adores Shinji


This episode was pretty entertaining to watch because of Jun and his antics. He's retained his personality from the games and probably gained more personality in the anime. Pretty much, he's full of randomness. He has his own music when he is onscreen. He of all people adores Shinji. His voice sounds awkwardly old to since the show wants him to be older or a simple miscast. Some funny parts all around not from Jun only but Melissa like when she tosses Takeshi like a rag. The BGM was pretty good with some tracks I haven't heard in a while plus some new ones. The animation was good as well. Overall, I give this episode an 8.7/10.
 
This was a really fun episode. Jun was just as hilarious as he was in the games. I'm glad Satoshi's Pokemon easily beat his as its been much to long since Satoshi has had an easy win. I'm really glad he's sticking around next week, and hopefully he'll be a reoccurring character.

Sabonea reference ftw! :-D This was easily the best part of the episode for me. I'm so glad the writers remembered this guy existed. I think I was almost as happy as Kojiro. :-D And don't you just love how badass he looks?

Pretty good episode, the battle was pretty quick yet intense. I though Jun was more interesting than he is in the games. Wonder how Jun knows Shinji.
Lots of different and probably new pieces of silly-ish background music, as well as few old ones such as Pika Pika Swing.
Good moment of sentimentality with Kojirou and Sabonea, which looked pretty strong. Takeshi getting tossed like a rag was funny lol. Jun was pretty squarely pwned, but it was pretty even as well. Though Pikachu was hit by that nasty Hyper Beam.
 
Glion and Roserade knocking each other out after dodging a flurry of blows was pretty funny. I dunno; I just find these things funny.

Jun sounded a little too old for me, but heck, I loved the way he was fanboying over Shinji (WTF? XD).
 
Can't wait to see that episode. Jun looks awsome. I think he is like Ash in a way, another trainer looking to be master one day. I'll have to watch it.

Seeing emploeon, I wish piplup would evolve cause to me its a little blue version of Ash pikachu that lives in a pokeball instead of being free to wander about all the time.

Anway, from the first screens posted here, Jun looks funny. And I think that Jun is a far better name than Barry.

Wonder how both Jun and Dawn are from Twinleaf and don't know eacother, its not a big place afterall. Or maybe I missed something.

Heck, if the writers one day did decide to write Ash off (I know won't happen) or wanted another spin off, they could use Jun as the main character for a while. I'd watch it. Be better than what they did with the chronicales episodes.

Not sure I don't think it was talked about. (from what I can gather anyway)

This seemed like a stranded meet up episode, the wasn't too much remarkable about it but is was fun to watch. 8/10

Gotta love how he also constantly starts to count down from ten, and how the topic CONSTANTLY gets driven off-topic. Jun's one likeable character, I must say.

EDIT:

I can't stop laughing at the screenshot. I've decided to nickname Jun as Mr. Kittens because... kittens always crawl into a bag whenever they see one. Plus, they're crazily hyper too. It makes sense!

So, no mention of Kurotsugu, right?

I find it very strange that someone whose father is such an awesome trainer idolizes someone like Shinji... That's a nosense. Kurotsugu could wipe Shinji out into the underground with one bare finger!

Strange, very strange.

Though, in the games we also didn't know who Kurotsugu was. Until we met him outside Battle Frontier, so it may also be case in the anime.

I think it's pretty obvious that Jun was introduced to build up before the Battle Frontier arc and battle with Kurotsugu. I don't believe that they showed him just because they realized that his omission was cruel. If they did, they would show all Anzu, Itsuki, Carine, Houenn Elite 4, Mitsuru, Silver, Yuuki, Kouki, Futomaki, Fuji (the real one), Nanami (despite the fact that introducing her at this point wouldn't make sense), Mayumi, Azusa, Mizuki, Yukari, Mari & Dai, Kagari, Ushio, Michiru, Kadzuki and Hitomi in this episode!
 
I really like Jun! I knew it from the preview! ^__^
So Dawn know Jun but he didn't remember her except for being the one eho lost to Paul... and I think Brock he didn't remember at all XD
Seems like Jun know and like Paul only from watching the tournament on TV
I wonder if Jun will change his opinion on him after he'll meet him and learn about him more
I think we might get a really great rivalry between this trio... can't wait to see more of them!
It was also great to mention Cacnea again and even see it (even though it was a one second still shot)
Now Dawn know about the new Pokétch... will she get it soon?
I wanted some Pip/Empo interaction... maybe next time
It's also nice Jun stay for the next episode! I hope he'll stay even longer than that but he'll probably stay in Hearthome to battle Fantina again

I can't wait to see more rivalry between Ash and Jun I want it to heat up LOL. But man it will be so funny when Paul/Ash/Jun are in the same room together if they do ever meetXD

Dang, Pearl's Empoleon has an extremely high-pitched voice.

Was Empoleon using Hydro Cannon? If Peal is going to be a returning character, and Paul's Torterra knows Frenzy Plant, could this mean Chimchar will learn Blast Burn once it evolves into Infernape?

Gliscor's ability to fly/glide seems to have improved dramatically in this episode. At least Ash is finally using her in battle.
