Who Do You Want To See in the Next Super Smash Bros. Game?

I'm fine with whatever characters are thrown in. I trust Sakurai's judgement... that is, if a sequel is ever made.

Personally, I adored the Brawl roster and as long as every character from Brawl comes back, I don't really care too much about whatever new characters they decide to add; that being said, I would like a chance to play with Ridley. Metroid could definitely have a bit more representation in the roster.

Seems we have TWO GAMES now to dream of a roster for...

Starfy (The Legendary Starfy), Ray (Custom Robo), Hunter and Tyrano (Fossil Fighters), Isaac (Golden Sun), Mokka (Magical Vacation), Little Mac (Punch-Out), Mega Man (Mega Man), and Chibi-Robo (Chibi-Robo) are the ones from franchises not yet featured I'd like to see.

Am I the only one who hates the idea of more 3rd party characters besides Megaman?

I heard capcom didn't allow mega man in brawl anyways.

Rather, SEGA and Konami offered up Sonic and Snake willingly. Nintendo didn't specifically ask either of them, and didn't ask Capcom either. Their statement wasn't that Capcom refused, but rather they didn't make the offer.

I notice Mega Man is absent from Marvel vs Capcom 3 and been wondering why. I think we may know why right now.

In fact, Snake's creator begged for him to be in Melee, but they didn't have enough time to put him in. (Thanks Nintendo Power for confirming that)

In terms of characters, since Zero has been offered in Capcom games, why not him instead of Megaman, or even with him?

Well, here's my wishlist for SSB

Characters:
Zoroark (that's an obvious pne)
Waluigi
Pokemon Trainer (Hilbert)
Bowser Jr.

Pokeballs:
Victini
Musketeer Trio (and maybe Keldeo)
Kami Trio
Audino
Stunfisk
Stunfisk
Stunfisk
Stunfisk
Stunfisk
Stunfisk
Stunfisk!

Assist Trophies:
Navi
Rosaline and Lumas

I agree with u pancake.

As for my own thoughts, I would like to see phoenix wright (or any other character in the ace attorney franchise) as an assist trophy and I definitely want to see the Prince from Prince of Persia series and Ellie from Monster Tale.

I think, more Sonic and Metal Gear characters should come, as well as Chibi Robo and Megaman. Waluigi, and Zoroark should join too, with Mewtwo and Roy returning, but with revamped movesets. Ganondorf should also get a new moveset that makes him..... not a worse Captain Falcon. Speaking of CF, I think Samurai Goroh and the other two that belong to the original F-Zero should join as well, along with Louie from Pikmin. Isaac should come in too, as he need representation. Ness's buddies, Paula, Jeff, and maybe Poo, should be represented too, especially Jeff, as I see them obtaining unique movesets. Midna, Starfy, and another Metriod character would be good too.

Only my character list: Zoroark, Gen V Pokémon trainer, Mewtwo returning, Animal Crossing boy/girl (Tom Nook), Rundas, Lyn and Hector.

Since I've been spending more time in the arcade as my #1 mean for gaming, I am obliged to say Arcade Edition of the next Smash Bros. game. This way, no longer SSB will be seen as a "babies' game", while the game will finally be in the same discussion as established fighting game franchises like Street Fighter, Tekken, KoF, to name a few.

While Sakurai said, "Brawl is NOT a fighting game", everybody has this notion that it is.

Big interview between Iwata and Sakurai...

- Sakurai is using his experience working with Kid Icarus 3DS to smooth the development process of 3DS smash. Mentions he would randomly think about Smash during Kid Icarus development

- "While I'm sure some people just want a new DX (Melee) or X (Brawl), that is not the answer I'm looking for"

- There's a lot of implied differences between the 3DS and WiiU versions. The issue of limitations (or lack thereof) come up ("I could make 50 characters, or double the stages, or make everything prettier (graphically), but with the WiiU I don't have to choose just one of those options"), while he runs into that problem with the 3DS, "maybe something fun like the original smash bros." adding something about a handicap.

- 3DS version will be more "personalized" than the WiiU version, as most likely the handheld machine will only be played by one person. This regards "personal data and achievements." He's probably referring to the stat-keeping mode the Smash games have had and how a handheld version would most likely only be tracking a single person's stats.

- Sakurai feels conflicted, saying something to the effect of "On one hand, a player feels a great sense of accomplishment by beating something really difficult. On the other, if it's too hard, they'll feel a sense of frustration by constantly losing to it." (implied differences between versions)

- Iwata goes on to add that a handheld experience is typically a "fun experience in a short amount of time," and that adjustments would have to be made to work around that.

- "So, for the 3DS version, since you must enjoy it alone, it has a system of rewards that you can customize your character with. And then you can bring these characters from the 3DS to the WiiU to fight on. So one "individual" on a handheld will appear in the "stadium" of the home console." Iwata summarizes by saying "The 3DS version is where players will earn individual achievements for themselves, while the WiiU version will be a place to show those achivements off"

- Sometime late in the Melee development cycle, Iwata told Sakurai "you can never have enough Smash Bros!," to which Sakurai replied "YES YOU CAN." Sakurai apparently doesn't remember this.

- Iwata mentions that he likes how in Smash, both high level and beginner level players can feel a sense of accomplishment in comparison to other fighting games. If you don't know what you're doing in other fighting games, you'll typically get destroyed, in Smash you can earn a few more hits. Sakurai adds onto that saying "You'd think it'd be natural to help new players improve, but when the goal of a fighting game is to beat your opponent down, that becomes difficult." Iwata "feels helpless and weak when he loses badly," and lastly Sakurai adds that "the 3DS version will have ways to help beginner players," going on to suggest co-op "There will be a reward system for good players helping bad ones"

- Apparently the balancing and rebalancing of characters was entirely up to Sakurai, but he's going to ask for some help from other members of the team this time around. He still feels the creator of the game will have the clearest vision of how the balance should look like, but definitely welcomes the help. Iwata asks what type of balancing he's referring to, and Sakurai responds talking about balancing animation/frame/hitbox data, while making sure it makes sense in the scope of the game. It has to "look natural and feels good to land the attack"

- There's implied distinction between casual and competitive play made by Sakurai, saying "all these claims of 'this character is too strong' or 'this character is too weak' varies from person to person." When he looked at the sets of data from Wifi games, all characters had relatively the same level of success. "However, according to the competitive scene, that doesn't seem to be the case elsewhere."

- A balance regarding the difficulties of surgical balance changes, and how they don't want characters to "feel the same," adding that specific traits/strengths/weaknesses are intentionally built to differentiate characters. Along with the "oh now that we nerfed this, this other thing is broken," etc. Iwata comments that this type of balancing is ridiculously hard and congratulates Sakurai for pulling it off with every single character by himself.

- Sakurai mentions that while new developers might see this initially as a learning opportunity, it'll eventually turn into a lesson of pain.

- More commentary regarding the extreme level of difficulty regarding balance vs uniqueness in a fighting game cast, with Iwata joking that "I knew I had an eye for talent when I picked you"

- Sakurai comments "the mechanics of a game better fit the system the game is on." The 3DS's small screen, for example, is something they have to work around, making sure the backgrounds and stage structure are clearly visible.

- Iwata comments that some designers enjoy gimmicks like FMVs and cutscenes, because it's where developers get the most free reign to show off their skills.

- Sakurai mentions "I think it'd be best if we can design something that works well and looks good regardless of whether it's on a portable or on an HDTV, but having a different team for each version is also good because we can still make very specialized additions to each." Each individual project will take advantage of each developers "specialty and where they're most likely to apply it."

- Essentially boiling down to "while keeping coherence between the two version is important, they don't want to use that as an excuse to compromise potential features for either version"

- Apparently Sakurai had no direct involvement with either Sonic's or Link's implementation in Brawl.

- He's slightly concerned by the fact that the various branches of Brawl staff worked on different schedules so the development process has gotten rather long. Iwata asks "but now you get to be a lot more hands-on with Smash 4, right?" to which Sakurai answers "Yes, but I'm coming into development right after Kid Icarus finishes, with no rest inbetween. So any help I can get is much appreciated"

- Sakurai says as a game designer and head developer, he really enjoys making something himself and seeing it turn into something good, but if he takes it in the wrong direction he won't reach the people he intends to. With Smash he wants to reach out to as many as he can. Iwata comments "this leaves a lot up to chance when it comes to the finished game," but Sakurai responds "I prefer it to a "stable" series where every sequel is juts the same game with a little bit added on. While it's painful to make something new, it's fun to figure out how." While with Smash, each iteration has a different fun twist, and even someone who doesn't know much about the series can pick apart the differences fairly easily.

- Iwata anguishes over how expensive the project is and that it requires a lot of people.

- Sakurai "Anyway, I look forward to the people you bring to this project, since the success of it is dependent on who you gather for me! Still, even if you don't gather enough people, I wouldn't want to see the project stretched thin, so we could focus on only one system." Iwata: "What? Even after we announced at e3 that we'll be developing for both systems?!" Sakurai: "Well either that or I take a small team and we take five years"

- in the conclusion, Iwata thanks Sakurai, and Sakurai says "thanks, but my time is currently focused on making sure Kid Icarus is perfect for launch!"

Yeah, not the right company, but I can wish can't I?

50 characters is a reasonable amount to shoot for Smash Bros 4.

I'd like to see more Pokémon, like Zoroark. Or Blaziken, but I don't think they'll put it in.
Lyn from Fire Emblem would be pretty cool. She could have the Mani Katti and a bow, and would get the Sol Katti for her final smash. They could add Sothe or Volke from Radiant Dawn and a mage like Soren or Tormod as well, that would be a good change from all those swordman. A laguz would be interesting and could switch at will from and to its animal form.

From other translations, the impression I get is this:

* Both Smash Bros games will be built with the same core engine. They will be differentiated in specific ways.

* Smash Bros 3DS will primarily be an RPG-elements esque single-player action game where characters pick from a pool of smaller characters and level them up through (probably, given the series' history) a third Adventure Mode, gaining customizable things like stats, stickers, and costumes to make your character more unique. It will probably have a PVP and "Free-For-All" mode, but this won't be the focus of the game. Basically, the Adventure Mode from Brawl in 3D with 12 or so multiplayer stages to play on but a more robust level-up system. River City Ransom with Smash Bros. It will have fewer characters and stages but make up for it by making the game feel more "personal".
** If Mii is going to be a playable character, I'm sure this will be the focus of the 3DS version - imagine Emerl from Sonic Battle only as a Mii.

* Smash Bros Wii U will be a strictly multiplayer and AI-based affair that you can readily pick up and play with a much larger cast of characters but no or fewer customization options and little "personal" data like trophies and stickers. Basically the franchise as it was before Brawl.

* You can bring your Mii and 3DS account onto the Wii U version and possibly even play the game with your 3DS.

My my, so many characters and series to choose from.

The prospect of two games is really interesting. As for the characters in the game:

Pokémon: Don't hate me for this, but I don't want any other pokémon or Pokémon trainer as a PC, except for Mewtwo if it makes a return. The reason for this is that I imagine them much better as pokeball characters, and having a lot of pokémon characters would cut on the variety of series. (Hides in a shelter in order to avoid incoming tomatoes).

Mario: Bowser Junior as a playable character, Professor Elvin Gadd as an assist trophy (With poltergust 3000). I'm not sure about Waluigi and Daisy (Well, she has more possibilities). A Mario galaxy stage would be very nice.
Oh, and how could I forget about Geno and Paper Mario, (Both are unlikely though).

Zelda: mmm... this one will be harder. There are so many characters, it's the same problem as pokémon... most of them are better of as assist trophies, but I do see future for the likes of Tetra and Vaati. It's just a matter of not adding so may characters.
Oh, and stay away from Toon Link, none shall take him from the game.

Yoshi: Kamek and Poochy would make for nice assist trophies. Baby Mario and baby Luigi would be better as cameos in the Yoshi stage.

Donkey Kong is fine as it is IMO. Maybe K.Rool.

Fire Emblem: Bring back Roy... maybe.

Starfox: Give Wolf and Falco a different moveset than Fox's and we are set. Maybe slippy as an assist (Capable of being hurt like starfy, he he he).

Metroid: The young Ridley idea sounds really good. As I have no knowledge of the series I can't say much more.

Wario can stay... even if I don't like him that much.

F Zero: Add Samurai Goro. I can't think of anything else ATM.

Kirby: Fine as it is IMO. Maybe Paint Roller as an assist trophy and Kracko as a boss.

Ice Climber: Fine as it is

Mother/Earthbound series: Needs more love. I could definitively see The Masked Man as a playable character. And some other chars as assist trophies besides Jeff. (Boy, how I love this series).

Kid Icarus: Has potential, but I would need to see more of it in order to make a choice. Maybe eggplant wizard for assist.

Pikmin: Fine with Olimar, I don't want another clone in the form of Louie. Maybe if he had a different moveset. But I can't think of anything... wait, King of Bugs... maybe Luie coud fight using the monsters from pikmin instead of using pikmin. After all, he did control the Titan dweevil.

R.O.B: mmm... maybe... I'm not sure about it. It makes for an intresting fighter though.

Game & Watch: Fine as it is.

Metal Gear: Maybe Liquid or Gray fox... not so sure on this one.

Sonic: Shadow or Knuckles, maybe tails as an assist. Of course, Robotnik/Eggman as a boss.

As for new series:

Nintendo related:
Mii: Is a really intresting concept for a smash bros and I think its likely.

Punch Out: Little Mac seems like the most obvious addition to the rooster, given that he has recieved his own new game recently. And he has moves that could cope well with smash0s style.

Animal Crossing: I don't think they are suited for fighting. But Resseti is a very funny assist. I think that should stay.

Baloon fighter: an assist would be a nice adition.

Chibi Robo: Not sure of the moves. But it would make an intresting PC, (And no size issues. Olimar already got that off the way).

Custom Robo: Don't have enough info to porpose a character.

Fossil Fighters: Same as Custom Robo.

Golden Sun: Another one with plenty of possibilities. Issac should be in.

Advance wars: Assist is fine.

Sin and Punishment: I could see it happening. It already got an assist in Brawl.

Excite Bike: I think this one should stay as an assist.

Xenoblade, The Last Story and Pandora's Tower: This could be a great opportunity to know the series better. And it could play ala Fire emblem in Melee. Giving Nintendo a reason to get them here in America (The continent, not just the U.S.A).

The Rolling Western: The most recent IP from Nintendo seems like a good choice. I'm curious as how Jiro would play.

And as for third Parties:

Megaman: The most obvious addition, maybe Zero, and Wily as a boss (Eyebrow dance included).

Bomberman: Seems like a good choice for me.

Klonoa: Sorry, couldn't resist.

Ryu and/or Ken: Could happen.

Rayman: Maybe...

Professor Layton: Unlikely. Maybe an assist. I can dream...

And Last, but not least:

Okami Amaterasu (Issun included on top of Ammy's head): If this happened, I would die a lot of times. The franchise has been practically adopted by Nintendo, but is still not likely when capcom has Megaman and Street Fighter in the line. Still, I think that Ammy would make a very good fighter, and besides, It wouldn't be the first time a quadruped is in brawl. Pikachu and Ivysaur already paved that road. Maybe Susano or Waka as assist trophies.(This long text makes it obvious how much I like Okami and Okamiden... Well, I can dream).

Yeah, as soon as I saw Jiro I was like "New Smash Rep?". He's got character, and I've heard it's made by the Zelda crew so it's first party.

Of course, hopefully he'll get his own full game by then (since it's a 3DS download at the moment, not a retail game iirc), it'd be weird to include a guy from one game imo.
