Review BW001: To the Isshu Region! Zekrom's Shadow!! ・ BW002: Iris and Kibago!

Just watched them both. Not being able to understand a word doesn't really hurt it as much as I thought it would, I mean it's pretty simple stuff after all.

I liked the episodes overall and I LOL'd with the rest of the group at Mamapato's little pose in Ash's hand at the end of ep 2...extremely cute/funny. I hope it gets some decent personality time, unlike other neglected birds...but I don't really like it's evo's.

On the other hand, I can't wait for Mij to evolve already, 'cos that is one cool middle stage...and hopefully it'll stay that way, like Bayleef did. Of course Ash needs to catch it first...or completely ignore it after it saved Pikachu and Kibago and dispatched TR...very rude!

I look forward to the next episode!

I'm still angry they got rid of Team Rocket's pokemon. although this is probably because they got rid of the characters the voice actors (mainly Wobbuffet) mainly play, although Wobbuffet could have done with a goodbye episode.

This is probably the most logical explanation, and it's a shame to see it get overshadowed by a million "OMG N00b A&h!!11!1!" comments.

Sonansu: Ueda Yuuji, who also did Takeshi's voice.
Habunake: Satou Chie
Megayanma: Furushima Kiyotaka, who also did Shinji's voice
Manene: Ohtani Ikue, who also does Pikachu's voice
Muscippa: Sakaguchi Daisuke, who also did Takeshi's Usokki's voice

Manene's voice actor is the only one who's still on the show, it seems.

We're seeing a new Team Rocket. They have gone two whole episodes without a single blast off. Do you have any idea how insane that is? In the previous thirteen seasons, they went one episode without a blastoff. ONE. And it was the very first episode, in which they weren't in.

Do people not actually watch this show and base their statements off random bullshit they've heard on the Internet? Because there have been PLENTY of episodes where the Rocket-Dan haven't blasted off.

Why couldn't he get the Wargle prevo? Just this ONE time instead of the token bird? I mean cmon... Mijumaru is my favorite starter. I never thought I would hear those words come out of my mouth. It has won me over.

Lol its funny. Pikachu's electric attacks were unable to work... so it lost its first battle in the 'new' region. I'm glad they did that to be honest. It would have been embarassing if Pikachu didn't have the handicap and got beat by a FRESH starter in its first battle. If that would have happened... Tsutarja should take on LATIOS. I'm really glad thats not the case.

because certain traditions are kept to this day

speaking of which I really hate how the anime never tells us what gender a Pokemon is

we always have to see it's gender differences or something else like Attract for it to tell us

and as such

we won't know Mamepato's gender until it fully evolves

- Ok, if I have one problem with this episode it's this; Pikachu being defeating by a starter Pokemon fresh out of the lab. I appreciate that he didn't have electric attacks and the new shiny Iron Tail missed, but still. He took down a friggin' Latios single-handedly and now he faints from a single grass-attack for god's sake! I know it's assumed Pikachu got a full-on power down from Zekrom but it would be nice if it was hinted at in dialogue.
If Ash had begun the battle knowing Pikachu couldn't use its Electric attacks, he would've won. But finding that out mid-battle and then naturally worrying about Pikachu's health, you can't really blame him.

I'm not sure were all of this goes, so I am sorry if its in the wrong thread/forum. Anyway I have read there were four specials that aired before the episodes aired in Japan. They are:
Its About to Start! Its a Pokemon Festival! Best Wishes
Live Boardcast! Its a Pokemon Festival! Best Wishes
Live Boardcast! Its a Pokemon Festival! Best Wishes
Live Boardcast! Its a Pokemon Festival! Best Wishes
Does anyone know were I can watch videos of these specials please? Also were do questions about the Japanese Best Wishes website go?

This, pretty much. And it isn't just Ash worrying and no longer paying complete attention to the battle but also Pikachu himself. Pikachu clearly got upset in the middle of the battle. Sure, Pikachu's tough but when both trainer and pokemon are no longer 100% focused, out of sync and are completely off their game, they're going to lose even if they do have more experience.

Anyway, these episodes were awesome and I can't think of a better way to start off the new series. Ash's hyperactivity was rather endearing and I like the parallels you have between Ash's excited attitude towards Isshu pokemon and Iris's attitude towards Pikachu(and to an extent, Meowth). THE OHMYGOD NEW SHINY POKEMON SQUEEEEEE 8D

...and yeah, as someone else mentioned earlier, totally weird to only hear Ash ordering attacks after like four years of "Piplup, bubblebeam!"

Also, why are so many people that surprised/annoyed Ash forgot to weaken the pokemon before throwing a ball? Ignoring the nod to the games where you have the tutorials first but as we saw in AG so long ago, when Ash gets excited over a pokemon he forgets to battle first.

I'm just a little disappointed in Team Rocket's lack of comedy - I loved those Meowth Boss fantasies and I hope their uber seriousness is just temporary. Maybe they need a thunderbolt to shock it out of them.

Uh...Pika and Goliath, the Team Galatic showdown, contest episodes, the league eps - and these are the ones off the top of my head out of the DP season where they didn't go blasting off again.

Because Ash is the main character. The reason Giovanni gave for not allowing the TRio to have non-Isshu Pokémon is stupid. Especially when Iris said that Meowth should not be in Isshu.

good opening episodes. That being said, i hope ash involves Mijumaru only ONCE and not into that ridicolous looking final form

I hope that will be the case! I hope his Mamepato is male too and evolves all the way! :)

and oh, I'm loving Iris' character. :D

They already aired, and being one-off specials, they'll never be rerun, so... either invent a time machine or find someone who taped them.

For being the first episode of a series and all, it was pretty dang awesome. Seriously, it's only the first episode and it's already jumping headway into the plot. Really like the amount of detail that went into the animation with the cool poses and attacks too. Hopefully that keeps up for the rest of BW.

Compared to the awesome series opener, the second episode was a bit lacklustre. Still, it was fun to see Ash battle and catch Mamepato. Iris seems pretty fun too. Though her hair is still so distracting.

So yeah, BW is shaping up to be a good series. But if there's one thing I don't like about it, it's that TR is too darn serious. Badass TR is nice and all but it's so weird to not even get a single moment from them that's even remotely funny. Almost like they're completely different people. :/

EDIT: Oh yeah, Stalker Mijumaru is adorable. <3

Personally I thought it was like one of the movies; and zerkrom appearing was just epic. Honestly, I'm pleased. The shooti battle was actually quite good and the new graphic update is just brilliant and over due.

Miju's litte victory dance was just heart melting. How does anyone not love him?!

Mamepato was a quick and cool capture though I would like to know the name of that strange air slash like move it uses. It will likely stay as mamepato for a little longer; it takes to like level 21 to evole in game.

Shooti is interesting. TBH I think the whole camera thing is just an add on, but he is... different. Obviously he is more easy going than paul; at least shooti shows some emotions.

Team Rocket got smarter, eviler and more respectable; its exsactly what I wanted. They actually used a smoke bomb
Did you guys see them having three Pokéballs each; what Pokémon do you think James will get his hands on? I have a feeling he will get mogurew...

Anyway despite me understanding next to nothing of Japanese, I enjoyed watching and I really think this good be the best region in the anime!

I think it was just Gust if I heard what Satoshi said correctly (assuming you mean the first move it uses).

Air slash forms a ball of air, that attack was probably air cutter.

Air Cutter- Looks like X-scissor in this series. (Ash's Mamepato)
Air Slash- Looks like buzzsaws (Jessie's Koromori). I dislike Best Wishes's Air Slash animation, Buzz Saw Air Cutter would've made more sense, but eh Buzz saw energy things are still cool regardless.

Gust- Normally looks like a powerful gust, but when Ash's Mamepato used it against Meowth (or Jessie's Koromori, can quite remember), Mamepato sent out many air slash type ball with comet tail things that ended being completely ignored as the regular normal gust hit Meowth (or missed Jessie's Koromori).

Honestly I think it was a mistake in animation, either that or they were trying make Mamepato look badass.

A majority of those are because they just didn't fight Ash, but now they did. And even if they haven't blasted off during a fight, there have been WAY too many episodes where they have and completely overshadow them.
