Re: English Pokémon names

Some guy on DeviantArt made Zapbra a long time ago. (In 2008, to be exact. Gen.5 wasn't even announced back then.)

Re: English Pokémon names

Zorua and Zoroark are keeping their names.

Re: English Pokémon names

Aside from Zoroark, Reshiram, and Zekrom (which have all been confirmed to keep their Japanese names), none of the English Pokémon names have been revealed. What do you think they will be?

My guesses:

Tsutarja: Leafidian/Leaphidian
Pokabu: Pignite
Mijumaru: Wotter?
Zorua: Zorox/Zorrox
Chiramii: ???
Giaru: Torcog?
Hihidaruma: Flaboon
Mamepato: Diligeon
Meguroko: Gaterrain
Munna: Dreamite
Shimama: Zapra/Zapbra

I only came up with one guess =P
It was to name Tsutarja, Sinaleaf. It's a corruption of the word sinister+leaf. Also if you take the "i" out of the name, it's Snaleaf which looks like snake+leaf.

Re: English Pokémon names

Zorua and Zoroark are keeping their names.

How do you know that Zorua will be keeping its name? Zoroark.com redirects to pokemon.com, but zorua.com redirects to something in Japanese which, as far as I can tell, isn't Pokémon-related. Or have they said somewhere that Zorua will keep its name?

Re: English Pokémon names

Zorro is spanish for fox. And if Zoroark keeps its name, then I don't see why Zorua wouldn't.

Re: English Pokémon names

Tsutarja: Leaviper
Pokabu: Pigbacue
Mijumaru: Ottsea
Chiramii: Chinchy
Giaru: Gearuo
Hihidaruma: Darukong
Mamepato: Pudgion
Meguroko: Sandodile
Munna: Dreazem
Shimama: Zapra

Guessing is always fun.

Re: English Pokémon names

Zoroark= Zoroark
Zorua = Zorua
Pokabu = Piglite or Porkabu
Mijumaru = Wotter or Ottimid
Tsutarja = Serplant or Serleaf
Hihidaruma = Babooma
Chiraami = Chinrami
Giaru = Duogear
Meguroko = Desejaw
Mun'na = ???
Zekrom = ???
Reshiram = Reshiflare???
Shimama= Zapra

Well those are just my predictions I know their not good.

Re: English Pokémon names

for the last time, their names will not change to zoloark. Zorro is spanish for fox. Zolo is... nothing for nothing.

Re: English Pokémon names

Can someone tell me what the heck Munna is supposed to be before I make my guess? BTW Hihidaruma is going to become or is (cannot see resemblance) a Japanese daruma doll. Thats my guess. Daruma will probably be present in it's name

Re: English Pokémon names

I don't think they'll keep the Daruma part. In fact, I don't know if I believe the Daruma refers to the doll either...I think it's from "hidaruma" which means body on fire while the first "Hi" might refer to Hibagon, Japanese big foot.

In that case, I vote to name it Ashsquatch.

For Mamepato, I like Smigeon. Y'know, like smidgen.

For Gear, I hope they use a name that refers to its dual-nature. I kind of like Cogrades....y'know, like Cog + Comrades? The pun sounds better than it looks, however. People would probably think it was "cog-grades".

For Chillami (yes, I think the first part is supposed to be romantized to this to keep the "chilla" part. Saw this romantization on #PM and I like it), I think they could keep it somewhat close...maybe Chillamigo, as in "Chinchilla" and "amigo", since Chinchilla are from Peru. You know, I wonder if the "ami" part is supposed to be from "amigo" originally?

Re: English Pokémon names

Zoroark= Zoloark
Zorua = Zolua
Pokabu = Piglite or Porkabu
Mijumaru = Wotter or Ottimid
Tsutarja = Serplant or Serleaf
Hihidaruma = Babooma
Chiraami = Chinrami
Giaru = Duogear
Meguroko = Desejaw
Mun'na = ???
Zekrom = ???
Reshiram = Reshiflare???
Shimama= Zapra

Well those are just my predictions I know their not good.

Reshiram and Zekrom are already confirmed to be the english names. Zoroark too I think.

Re: English Pokémon names

The Zebra is Zebolt.

And Pokabu will keep it's Japanese name.

Hmmm... but what about the others names...

Re: English Pokémon names

My newest pet peeve is when people make puns on 'water' and 'otter' for Mijumaru's english name. I'm pretty sure that's only really a pun with an American accent. With my accent, for example, it only sounds like 'What-er'. XD

But I guess it's time to think of some terribly lame puns! :D
Zoroark= Zoroark
Zorua = Zorua
Pokabu = BACON Piblaze (Pig+Blaze)
Mijumaru = Ottrain (Otter+Rain= Not Wotter)
Tsutarja = Lizeaf
Hihidaruma = Infernape, because it does look like a flaming ape. Or Apeblaze/Aplaze.
Chiraami = Kidchilla (Assuming it's the youngest in a two or three-part evolutionary line.)
Giaru= I totally want the name Gearduo.
Mamepato = Minigeon (Because it's a small pigeon. :p)
Meguroko = Darkroc? (That's pretty lame. :/)
Mun'na = ???
Zekrom = Zekrom
Reshiram = Reshiram
Shimama= Zabra (No 'P')Because puns that change one letter are FUNtastic! Though it does sound too close to Abra.

Re: English Pokémon names

Gear- Goguygears.
Bad references are fun!
In all seriousness, I think Gear will be Gear in ENG.

Re: English Pokémon names

Since Munna appears to be a Drowzee pre-evo, I vouch for Sleepiby.
Hihidaruma: Baboom
Zorua: Illupus

Re: English Pokémon names

Tsutarja: Ivyper(Ivy+Viper, pronounced iVyper, like an Apple product)

Pokabu: Piglit(Pig+Lit, pun on piglet)

Mijumaru: Aquotter(Aqua+Otter)

Zorua: Same

Chiramii: Chinmira(Chin, from his chin)

Gear: Twincam(Reference to the devices/gears in machines that causes counter-clockwise rotations, such as in clocks)

Hihidaruma: Blazeface(Pun on the phrase "Brace-face")

Mamepato: Diligeon(Diligent+Pidgeon, this one was really good so I'm stealing it from the person who used it in this thread XP. But seriously, all credit goes to the original namer.)

Meguroko: Cockycroc(Pun on the phrase "Poppycock," the "cocky" refers to his ability "Overconfidence")

Munna: Sleepin(Pun on "Sleep-In" and possibly "Urchin")

Shimama: Zebrasspark(Combination of "Zebrass" and "Spark")
