Social experiment allows Twitch users to play Pokémon: Twitch Plays Pokémon becomes a sensation

Twitch Plays Pokémon is a Twitch channel that went live on February 13, 2014 which uses a modded version of Pokémon Red. Using the standard game boy button controls, the members of the chat can input commands through the Twitch chatbox. The stream quickly gained viewers, causing it to be one of the most watched streams on Twitch with a peak of around 113,000 viewers.

Literally the most frustrating thing; I didn't last 3 minutes trying to watch it.

Re: Social experiment allows Twitch users to play Pokémon: Twitch Plays Pokémon becom

I haven't watched any of it personally but all the news articles & summaries about it are downright hilarious.

Re: Social experiment allows Twitch users to play Pokémon: Twitch Plays Pokémon becom

It's so ridiculous but amusing at the same time.. I keep checking in to see how well they've done.

Re: Social experiment allows Twitch users to play Pokémon: Twitch Plays Pokémon becom

I can't stand watching more than 10 minute sessions. They always end up in the same spot as when I started watching. If you have someone explain what's going on the memes can be pretty funny.

Re: Social experiment allows Twitch users to play Pokémon: Twitch Plays Pokémon becom

I don't think I'd enjoy watching it, but I do enjoy the summary of what's been going on and the memes that come out of it.

Seriously though someone needs to keep a summary up. It took me awhile to learn why Pidgeot was the saviour and why Eevee was basically Judas. Or the magic helix.

I started watching it a little less than a week ago. I have to say, it's really impressive. A classical experiment in entropy. It's also taught me a valuable lesson...

We must consult the Helix Fossil!

I don't care who the host is, I just wanna know why it's not running in SGB mode.
Also, Select does actually have an important purpose in Pokemon Red, it is used to rearrange items.

Honestly, the game has been running for a week, and Bulbanews just realesed a news story about that a week later. Justified since it got more popular over it's run.

Seems that I'm the only one who holds no interest in that event.

If you didnt know about this already, you must have lived under a rock.

Turn that rock over and embrace the helix fossil on the other side!

I think this is a really interesting 'experiment'! It's funny to watch (for a short period of time) but I also think it's so interesting to watch how it plays out! It's great to see a Pokémon event getting mainstream attention too! :)

And now, it's not the only one. Spawning from TwitchPlaysPokemon's success is TwitchPlaysZelda, the same thing for the original Legend of Zelda.
